Global Game Jam

This is what I did this weekend! This event was awesome--God willing, I'm looking forward to attending many more! You don't even have to be in a group/studio/whatever to go--just sign up and participate! You can go in predetermined groups or join a group you meet when you get there!

Long Story Short: You're given a theme and based on that theme, you create a game in the course of 48 hours. The intent isn't to make a completed game so much as it's to 1) Learn, 2) Network, and 3) Have Fun!

The best part is that there were people participating all over the world--just about every continent had people doing this! All of the games are free source so you can even learn about/play the games that were done for this year and the years prior. Check out the game I did some of the art for!

Animation Test

See the colors on there? They look like they're the layers I used in Photoshop to make different frames for the animations in After Effects. I wonder why they're showing up like that--they're not even multicolored.

Anyways, I should learn how to animate with Photoshop and/or Flash--I just thought I'd do this for fun. I want an animation underneath the word 'Animation' on the front page of my website. :O

Drawing More Fan Art Like I Shouldn't

I was inspired to create the unstoppable penguin-based robot of time and glory, Pringer X!

I worked on this for most of the day for no particular reason. Well, I am trying to draw more so, that's as good a reason as any. I should go to be soon as I have to wake up early for work.

Well, anyway:

1) Rough sketch
2) Cleaned up the lines as best as I could (I said this before but I tend to draw small when I should really go bigger--would really help me get in there with details and not look so pixelated)

3) Flat Color but didn't like it

4) Changed Flat Color to something darker that'd pop out slightly more

5) Added shadows

6) And highlights (I tried not to make my shadows so dark like I usually did. Plus, I typically neglect highlights and since this is a robot, I wanted it to be nice and shiny, d00d!)

7) Added color to the lines!

8) I placed a radial gradient on a black background for the weird space-ring looking thing. I wanted the scene to look more action packed so I--

9) --added these lines! Whoosh! Whee. Um, yeah, you get the idea.

10) Added some tiny details like stars, a sexy eye twinkle, and (what I hope is) a subtle glow to the line layer. This took a while and was really fun---I like pushing myself to draw for fun! :)

I wonder if it's pretentious of me to do step-by-steps of these when I'm not a big shot professional or anything. Hm...

...

I'll worry about that later. >_>  <_<

Cave Story Fan Art + More To Come

After playing and beating Cave Story, I decided "Hey, I should do some fan art!"

So I did. Used Illustrator (with a wacom, to boot) for the first time in a while. Tried to capture a minimalistic art style with little to no shadows. Here's what I used as references:

I can stand to do some more do that but I wasn't sure so I left it the way it is for now. I'm still working on The Real Family Breakfast:

Reworked the background and might try colored outlines for the background stuff and black outlines for the foreground...I want this one to be super-duper perfect! I stopped working on the Wellington/Pacole drawing because I told myself "No more fan art--more original works!" and...I ended up doing more fan art.

Well, at least I'm still drawing, right? <__<

Job-wise: I'm doing OK. Still on the hunt! Won't give up! Some things are in works and I won't talk about it until it's finalized (I tend to be a bit presumptuous and end up biting my own tongue while swallowing my words and pride at the same time).

I've also dealing with moving soon (and biting my nails in anticipation of my tax return). Other personal stuff in my life...um...happened so all of that explains why I haven't been posting here a lot. That should and will change!

OH, UPDATED MY RESUME! YAY!

And congrats to the Markey family on...being a family and stuff! :D
